A Teacher’s Guide for Grades 7-9:

Louder Than Words

Meet high school junior Jordyn Jones as she starts fresh at a new school after being mysteriously expelled from her previous one. Determined to turn things around, Jordyn sets out to make new friends, find her voice, and stand up for issues she believes should not be ignored. We chose this
novel for its thoughtful attention to some powerful social and emotional themes: empathy, friendship, redemption, forgiveness, and the courage to stand up for what you believe in. Students will find themselves relating to and being inspired by Jordyn’s journey, and this curriculum will help students build connections between Jordyn’s story and their own.

Louder Than Words introduces readers to Jordyn Jones, a high school junior who finds herself caught between protecting the secrets of her past and speaking out for what’s right as she starts at a new school, Edgewood High. Soon after her first day, Jordyn is introduced
to Tomcat Tea, the school’s anonymously run gossip podcast. The show’s notorious podcaster is known for spilling the secrets of Edgewood High students—ruining reputations and sometimes even derailing futures. However, when Tomcat takes it too far, Jordyn and her new friends decide to take a stand. Even though she must risk her own secret past being exposed in the process, Jordyn sees this as a second chance to truly become the person she wants to be.
